It is a very uncomfortable feeling that affects kids and adults. If itching is caused by conditions like athlete’s foot, ringworm or any other visible infection, then one should try home remedies for that specific condition. Otherwise, if itching occurs without any reason ( as can be the case with many people ), then one can try these.
Itching is a natural sensation. It can happen to anyone, anywhere. In most cases, it is just occasional. However, itching is also a symptom of many infections and conditions . If the skin is bitten by an insect, is inflamed, or in the process of healing, there can be some itching. Some health conditions cause immense itching. The person gives in to the urge of itching. Excessive scratching of skin leads to wounds and lesions which are often painful. It may also lead to bleeding.

Home remedies for itching.
1. Coconut oil
This healthy natural oil is light and charming. It relieves itching. Massage the itchy area with some extra virgin coconut oil. It moisturizes the skin deeply and relieves some itching.One can add a pinch of turmeric to alleviate inflammation, if there is any.
2. Pinch the skin
This technique can relieve itching. It is a surprising observation that pain relieves itching. So, pinching the skin can relieve even severe itching for short period of time.It confuses the brain and it focuses more on the pain signal.
One can make natural talc by grinding a talc stone or a soapstone. This natural talc can be applied by adults on the skin to prevent moisture accumulation. One should however not use excess of any kind of talc, whether natural or manufactured. It can lead to respiratory problems, especially in children.
4. Natural air
Letting the skin take natural air. It calms the irritating feeling of itching. Natural air has soothing and healing properties.So, move out and let the skin take the wind.
5. Prevent accumulation of moisture
When the skin drenches in sweat, moisture accumulates in the skin. If it is not dried properly, it can lead to itching and other skin issues. A moist environment created by sweat is ideal for the growth of fungi and bacteria.
6. Corn starch
Apply corn starch in dry form on the skin. Corn starch can be dusted on the skin and easily dusted off. This can be used to relieve chronic itching.
It may not seem convenient to apply honey on the skin, but it does help in reducing itching.
8. Bathing in lemon water
This is an ancient remedy for itching. Although it is quite simple. Take some lemons, slice them up into slices about half an inch thick. Place them on the bathtub filled with water. Take bath in this water to alleviate itching.
9. Oatmeal bath
Mix oatmeal in cool water and apply in good amount on the entire skin area that itches. Keep it for some time and then wash it off.
10. Other Remedies
Itching can also be relieved by applying these things :
- Aloe Vera : Its soothing juice calms the itching response. Aloe Vera grows easily in different kinds of weather and soil and can be readily planted in the garden.
- Ice : Applying ice on the itching skin can reduce the feeling. But, this doesn’t seem to work for long.
- Cumin seeds paste : Apply a paste of dried and ground cumin seeds paste with some water on the skin. This is an Ancient Egyptian remedy for itching.
- Alum can be rubbed on the skin to relieve itching. It has been used since ancient times in India.
- Lemon Balm tea – Prepare a tea from lemon balm. It provides a cooling effect and alleviates itching. In fact, it is also used in itch control creams, lotions and salves. 
Severe itching is somewhat similar to chronic pain. It supposedly occurs without any reason. However, it is important that the person resist the urge to itch. It seems simple but it is very difficult to inculcate. Scratching may actually make itching worse. With practice and determination, one can learn to itch less or just soothe the skin with fingers. It takes some time to develop a habit. Once it is in practice, one can control itching more effectively.
